The Bletchley is a spy-themed London bar where you have to crack codes to order drinks.
To do that, you use imitation World War 2 Enigma machines which generate a unique code for every "agent." Orders are then transmitted via radio to the bar.
The venue is inspired by Bletchley Park, the site where British mathematician and codebreaker Alan Turing and his team used to crack German codes during World War 2. more with video

Crowd sourcing names can be a risky business, as the National Environment Research Council in the United Kingdom found out earlier this year...
Although they derived their name from the presence of the communications orbs in the Waihopai Valley, McCone said Spy Valley Wines did not hold any contracts to supply spooks with wine.
"They do occasionally come in their unmarked vans to buy some wine on a Friday afternoon though," he said. more

Talk to Real Secret Agents on New 'Call a Spy' Hotline
If you ever wanted to chat to a spy, now's your chance – a group of German artists have set up the "Call a Spy" hotline.
Ariel Fischer from the art group "Peng!" told Sputnik Deutschland that they can set up the hotline anywhere with a stable internet connection. It looks like an ordinary telephone, but is connected to the "Call a Spy" server.
The server contains a database of spy's numbers, and randomly selects one to connect the caller with. Calls are routed through a private network that masks the original source of the call.
Fischer said that despite the secrecy of intelligence work, the majority of the numbers were freely available on the internet, and come from a range of different countries. more

The Best Spy Museum You will Never See... except for the parts on-line
The CIA Museum's collection includes artifacts associated with the CIA's predecessor, the Office of Strategic Services; foreign intelligence organizations; and the CIA itself.
The collection includes clothing, equipment, weapons, insignia and other memorabilia that serve as tangible testimony to the Agency's history. Many of the objects the Museum holds were designed, manufactured and used specifically for intelligence operations.
CIA used the “Belly Buster” drill during the late 1950s and early 1960s to drill holes into masonry for implanting audio devices. After assembly, the base of the drill was held firmly against the stomach while the handle was cranked manually. This kit came with several drill bits and accessories.

All artifacts displayed in the museum's exhibits have been declassified by the appropriate Agency officials. Please note that because the Museum is located on the CIA compound, it is not open to the public for tours. Take the on-line tour.

Victoria Charters. The film is currently
being submitted to various film festivals. It will be
commercially available soon.
I received my advance copy of the movie and watched it last night. Not only is it technically interesting (all things Tesla are cool), but there is a surprising amount of human interest, drama and intrigue.
Disclaimer: So why am I hyping something that has nothing to do with spying? #1 this is a great flick. #2 they mentioned me in the credits.

New Spy Briefcase Tracks Itself... and much more
The iMbrief is designed to function as a mobile office and is aimed at being fashionable, secure and versatile. First thing's first, of course, it provides users with a means of storing and transporting documents securely, with an LED light inside to illuminate the contents.
• Access to the iMbrief is via a fingerprint scanner or the accompanying mobile app.
• It has a Kensington lock slot.
• A siren to warn users of any unauthorized access attempts and to scare thieves.
• An SD card slot for internal data storage.
• A Wi-Fi SD card allows data to be accessed wirelessly.
• Mobile devices can be charged both internally and externally (four USB charging ports in total)
• A GPS sensor allows the location of the iMbrief to be tracked.
• Can be use to play music and calendar appointments via its built-in Bluetooth speakers.
• The speaker is used as the security siren as well.
The case is charged via a USB port and takes around two hours for a full charge of the 5,000 mAh primary battery. A full charge can apparently last for over a month if only the fingerprint scanner is being used, but if it runs out of power, it must be charged before it can be opened again.
The briefcase has an aluminum-alloy shell and is will be offered in grey, black and burgundy if it reaches the market (December or January). It weighs around 4 lb (1.8 kg) and measures 450 x 330 x 95 mm (17.7 x 13 x 3.7 in). It is available with a detachable shoulder strap. more

PI Tip # 512 - Make: Coffee Cup SpyCam
Take your cup of Joe from classic to classified with a tilt-triggered spy camera.
The trick is to modify two paper coffee cups — install the device in one, slide it into the second, and align holes cut in the bottoms of each. Two LEDs can be seen through the standard plastic lid — one illuminates when the tilt switch is activated, the other flashes twice after a picture has been taken.
Think your cover has been blown? Simply rotate the cups to hide the camera... (more)

In the coming months and beyond, we will release a series of dead simple, easy to use tools to enable the next generation of security researchers. We, the security community have learned a lot in the past couple decades, yet the general public is still ill equipped to deal with real threats that face them every day, and ill informed as to what is possible.
Inspired by the NSA ANT catalog, we hope the NSA Playset will make cutting edge security tools more accessible, easier to understand, and harder to forget. Now you can play along with the NSA! (more)
